It’s now been nearly three decades since we opened the very first Vision Express store in Gateshead’s Metro Centre.

We’ve come a very long way since then. But our guiding principle remains the same. And that’s to provide an unparalleled level of customer service. A truly individual service, delivered in a professional yet welcoming environment where vision is taken seriously.

Through organic growth and acquisition there are now 593 Vision Express stores across the UK, Jersey and the Republic of Ireland – from big city destinations to local high street stores. Following our recent acquisition of Tesco Opticians, you’ll now find us in Tesco stores too.

Steps to Success

Comprising bronze, silver and gold stages, this development programme is for store staff. At every stage of the journey, you’ll come away with new skills and knowledge to help you grow in your role.

Rising Stars Training Academy

This highly successful leadership development programme is designed to help talented individuals take their first or next steps into management, whatever the stage of their career and at whatever level, from team leaders to senior managers. Progression on the programme leads to a growth in both salary and career prospects.

Sponsorship for trainee optical professionals

We have an established sponsorship programme for those looking to become a qualified Contact Lens Optician or Dispensing Optician. In addition to financial assistance, the programme includes revision courses and one-to-one support from a dedicated mentor.

Development for optical professionals

As well as the opportunity to gain additional CET points, there’s also scope for our optical professionals to share their expertise by becoming supervisors for the next generation of optometrists, contact lens opticians and dispensing opticians.

There are a number of opportunities for professionals to gain additional skills and responsibilities, in roles such as Regional Optical Lead Optometrist, Professional Development Tutor, Contact Lens Product Advisor, Store Manager or Joint Venture Partner. We also have dedicated professionals working within Support Centre departments, including operations, professional services and learning and development, as well as with product teams.

At our Support Centre there are many department-specific training programmes at all levels, along with sponsorship for professional qualifications including, for our finance team, those from the CIMA or ACCA.

The 5% Club

We’re proud to be backing the 5% Club – a nationwide initiative which sees employers commit to having at least 5% of their workforce aged between 16 and 24 on a structured training programme. We’re proud to say that the figure at Vision Express is now closer to 5.5%. We’re the first retailer to promise to provide support and training for our graduates, apprentices and sponsored students.

ApprenticeshipsFor enthusiastic young people we offer a 13-month apprenticeship programme that will give them lots of useful skills and valuable retail experience, plus a Level 2 qualification in Optical Retail and the foundations of a successful future career.
