Have you got your eye on a Contact Lens Optician job? Then you might like to know that if you joined our team, you’d play a key role in our stores. They build positive relationships with our customers and help deliver a trusted and personalised contact lens experience.

As a Contact Lens Optician, you’ll be a specialist practitioner and work closely with one of our Store Managers, which means you’ll be able to contribute to the store culture and help bring the brand to life with every customer you interact with. It’s a challenging and highly engaging position. If you want to know more about how to become a contact lens optician and what a typical day will look like for you, we’ve covered it all below.

The role of a contact lens optician

Contact Lens Opticians do what they do because they want to help every person keep their eyesight in tip top condition. Our contact lens opticians care about people’s eye comfort just as much as they care about eye health. They’re also expected to have a great knowledge of optical products and best current practices – and they must be registered with the General Optical Council. With this knowledge, you’ll be able to truly serve our customers and make the role your own.

The road to becoming a Contact Lens Optician

So, how do you become a contact lens optician? At Vision Express, you will need to be a GOC/CORU registered Contact Lens Optician. This means you will need to have studied the GOC Contact Lens core competencies with the main areas being:

·       Ocular anatomy.

·       Physiology.

·       Pathology.

On the other hand, if you’re still early in your career, you may want to apply for one of our pre-registration placements where you must be studying towards a degree.

As a Contact Lens Optician, you’ll specialise in choosing the best lenses for our customers, so you’ll need to be comfortable dealing with data and demonstrate a real passion for customer service, and building a relationship with people by learning about them, their lifestyle and their requirements, to make sure we’re providing the right recommendations and products.

As is the case with any role within the world of optometrists, you need to keep up to date with the latest research findings to help build your credibility. The journey to becoming a Contact Lens Optician involves training, research and experience dealing with people, all of which will help you become the best optician you can be.
