Step out with confidence: Noorulain's optometrist career

For a child trying their first pair of glasses, confidence is the moment they see the world more clearly. For a nervous patient who's been putting off an eye test, confidence is leaving an appointment feeling understood. And for an optometrist, confidence is knowing you have the support to make that happen.

We caught up with Noorulain to chat through the moments that shaped her journey into optometry. She's experienced confidence from both sides of the chair, and her story is a reminder of just how much your optometrist career (with the right support) can shape who you become.

What first inspired your journey into optometry?

"Growing up I had my own experience with eye infections and concerns about amblyopia, I remember how worrying those moments felt, and how much the right care mattered. Spending time in clinics as a patient showed me the impact vision can have on people's confidence. I’m proud to support children and adults facing challenges similar to my own, giving them the reassurance I received as a child. That’s what motivates me everyday."

What makes optometry so rewarding for you day-to-day?

“Helping my patents to see clearly, feel reassured and grow in confidence (especially children and those who are anxious) is really meaningful and reminds me why I love what I do.”

How has your career grown with Vision Express?

“Vision Express has given me the opportunity to deliver quality patient care. There’s real support from management, a friendly approachable team and clear opportunities to progress. It feels like a collaborative environment where you’re valued as a clinician and as part of the wider team."

"My personal growth has been supported through Leonardo, with clinical development and mentorship opportunities. The approachable management, flexible working options and supportive team have helped me build my confidence and grow my skills."

"Seeing women represented in clinical and leadership roles is especially meaningful to me as a Muslim woman. Talent and dedication are recognised regardless of background or gender. It makes me proud to contribute to an inclusive workplace where everyone is encourage to do well.”

What would you say to someone just starting out in optometry?

“Have confidence in your abilities, stay curious, be compassionate, and embrace every opportunity to learn. There are a lot of opportunities to develop your skills, explore different areas of practice, and advance your career. Most importantly, remember that the impact you can have on patients’ lives is incredibly meaningful.”
